A warm welcome to all visitors to the Pine River Observatory! The goal of this blog is to be a medium of exploration and communication about amateur astronomy and astrophotography. I hope that you will find material here that is interesting and perhaps helpful, and I encourage you to explore astronomy for yourself. There are many lifetimes-worth of amazing and beautiful sights and fantastic things to learn about our universe – and ourselves – by reaching up and touching the planets and stars.

Hey, what was it that flew over Hamilton at 4:33 am Sep. 15 2017, south east to north west. It was fuzzy and it was a little slower than a meteorite but much faster than a satellite and it did not burn up. It was about ten or twenty times the size of a satellite in the sky. Did anyone else see it?
Hi Glenn , I have a question out of topic , but new to this site not good with navigation of it. But maybe you can help me . As a general rule of approximation an Equa-lux is about four days before an Equinox in the spring. I am trying to determine an Equal-lux for spring 2022 , I live in SW Florida / but Jerusalem would be close enough to that latitude. Can you please confirm a date I estimate 3/17 2022 would that be correct . Thanks for your help , if you cannot help can you please direct me another source . Thanks again Sincerely Liam
Hi Liam,
Thanks for your message. My name is David 🙂
I don’t have too many sources on the Equilux or how to calculate it. My awareness is at about the level of reports like this: https://ourplnt.com/equilux-equinox/
best wishes,
– David
would you say my dates are correct if the equal-lux is about four day prior in the spring as compared to the equinox, then the equal-lux should be around the 17 of March ? Would you agree? Thank you
